The Modern keeps company with The Ilikai and the Hilton Hawaiian Village on one side and the Ala Moana Centre just along the way in the other direction. We love the sometimes frenetic tourist pace of central Waikiki and all it has to offer, but, if you are seeking something handy to the main tourist strip but not right in its centre – something just a little more relaxed, then this neighbourhood may be worth considering. The location of The Modern Honolulu is a really interesting alternative to central Waikiki. It works, due, in no small part, to the pristine clean lines and the great range of facilities coupled with the warm natural friendliness of the Hawaiian staff and their eager willingness to provide their charming service on all occasions. Something quite different in the Waikiki area, this 353 room hotel is in a totally renewed medium-rise tower building which, although it hasn’t changed a great deal as far as the exterior is concerned, is a revelation once you enter and become accustomed to the totally new and slightly modern-edgy interior where everything is light and white with a few timber highlights and a vivid splash of colour here and there! The whole experience from the public rooms to the guest rooms couldn’t be more removed from the old Hawaii – as one of Our Specialists observed on a recent visit – “Not a floral bedspread in sight”.
